Carolina Shag can trace its origins to the southern United States during the Big Band Era of the 1930s and 40s. Influenced by WW2 soldiers from the north, it's rhythms are greatly influenced by another American favorite, the swing. Although shag originated in the Swing era, Carolina shag is more closely associated with a variant of rhythm and blues known as "beach music." With it's laid back rhythms and fun loving footwork, this dance will complement any summer night in true Southern Style. |
